We haven't been to Kiawah Island since our honeymoon 17 yrs. ago. At
that time, the island only had accomodations and a small (very small)
store for bare necessities. There weren't very many restaurants either.
This was perfect for a private honeymoon but now we'd like to return
for a visit with our 7 and 13 yr. old girls. Have there been any
additions such as a grocery store, etc?

We have been visiting Kiawah Island every summer for 9 years. We will
be visiting Kiawah from March 26-April 3rd, 2004 and would like to
bring our very well-behaved dog (she's a former Canine Campanion for
the handicapped and very well trained). Does anyone know of any rental
properties that accept/allow dogs? (We are looking to purchase real
estate on Kiawah during this trip (or shortly thereafter) and want to
make sure that our dog will adjust to spending summer months at the
beach.)

Kiawah is a unique and precious island with a sub-tropical climate
offering lush, natural beauty lovingly preserved and protected by its
inhabitants. Besides the wonderful array of flora and fauna,
opportunities abound for a myriad of family outdoor activities. Having
moved here from the NYC metropolitan area, I truly appreciate all that
island living has to offer on Kiawah.

I( a 71 year old unmarried widower) together with my six children,
their three spouses and 10 grandchildren would like to stay at Kiawah
Island. We stayed there each in our own apartments in 1998 for a period
of 9 days. We were there in August. We would like to return for another
visit. I believe it would be more economical to stay in a house on the
island. We rented bicycles for our travel around the island. Would
anyone reading this note be able to e-speak with me about the
availability of a house in September 2003? I believe the end of
September would be preferable. We would stay for an overall period of 9
days.

We stayed in an oceanfront condo on Kiawah Island for the first time in
November 2002. The weather was gorgeous. The island is wonderful.
Peaceful, very quiet with beautiful beaches. Definitely a
family-oriented place, but romantic for a couple. You can't go wrong
with any one of the restaurants. It's proximity to Charleston enables
you to have the best of both worlds. Definitely rent bikes - you see so
much more of the island. We will certainly go back - as often as we
can. This is a gorgeous, beautifully landscaped place - if you golf, it
is paradise. If you don't golf, it is paradise!

I was first introduced to Kiawah about 5-6 years ago. There is no other
place on earth I would rather be. It is serenity at it's best! The
island is so beautiful and so well maintained. My daughter fell in love
with the place and I always felt so secure in letting her go and have
fun with her friends. I am planning a trip back this year after having
missed the last couple of years. The dolphins are great to see early in
the morning when they come into feed and you can walk forever into the
ocean when the tide is out! Visit, you will not regret your decision! I
call it "my piece of heaven on earth".

Here is an endorsement from person that just got back from Wild Dunes,
North of Charleston. My wife and I agree, that it was ok, but we miss
Kiawah Island, and will no-doubt return to Kiawah next year. As you all
know that have been there, Kiawah is very quiet and beautiful. The
contrast was that the landscape people work hard on Kiawah to keep the
grounds beautiful. Also we like the Kiawah beach better, and both agree
to get a better beach on continental U.S. would be difficult (we
haven't seen one yet). Anyway, we had to drive down one day, and had
breakfast at the Hotel (old Jasamine porch), food was good, and had
a wonderful walk on the beach before returning to Charleston. Still our
favorite vacation place. I recommend Kiawah Island

accomodations on Kiawah have been arranged for some time, and we will
be cooking a lot of our own meals, but I need info on the best
reasonably priced family restaurants (read about Cappys, Privateer,
Gilligans -- any updates on those ?), cheapest bike rentals, generally
"best of" Charleston carriage & walking tours and attractions, and
"best of" Island activities and activities in the surrounding area
should some family member not be captivated by the natural beauty of

Kiawah Island truly is my favorite place in the
whole world. It's beautiful, undeturbed beaches, the wildlife, the
Straw Market, crabbing, bike riding, the blue herons, etc. Everything
about the private dream island makes me urgent to return. While growing
up my aunt and uncle owned a four story, gorgeous vacation home with
beach access. Every summer we would have a sort of "family reunion". My
mother, father, brother, three aunts on my mom's side, their husbands,
the 8 cousins and my grandmother would all gather together in this
relaaaxed and amazing environment and each be part of a whole, our
whole, our family. I will never forget all of the wonderful resorters,
residnets, and staff members of the different areeeas around the
island, all service and friendliness was excellent! The little girls
dream that has stuck with me for almost twenty years is to do the same
with my family, to own property, to give my children the fairytale
which I had. Kiawah was, is ! and always will be my castle and kingdom.
My wish is that everyone across the world has the intense love for some
place that makes them feel like the King or Queen of their life. Kiawah
is my place, and I believe you would feel the same way after visiting.

Editor's Note: I've been to both areas you mention (many times to
Duck and many times to Kiawah). I love South Carolina beaches - they
are wide and flat and quite beautiful. I would highly recommend Kiawah
- it's very family oriented and close to Charleston. There are several
websites online for various property management companies and they can
help you to find the right place to rent. You'll need to hurry though
as Kiawah books about as fast as Duck does for summertime vacation
rentals.

to honeymoon on the island. We hope to find a relatively secluded

Anyone who loves Kiawa!, My family and I are
Planning our first trip to Kiawa this summer. We are planning to go in
august ( 1st - 8th). I have heard many wonderful things about peoples
overall experiences but not a whole lot on specific things we might
want to try. I.E. - restaurants, activities, entertainment. We are
bringing our two year old as well as two other couples with teenagers.
I also plan to play some golf. Can you recommend any specific courses.
Does the Island offer any packages if you play all the courses? My wife
loves to bike ride. Ant specific places we should ride? Is it very
crowded on the island this time of year? Is their anything we should
definitely bring to make our trip more enjoyable? Any info. adressing
these questions would be helpful. Send to this e-mail address or mail
to SONNY BARRETT 936 ROUSSILLON CT. ST. LOUIS,MO. 63135. PLEASE RESPOND
I'am very curious and am eagerly anticipating our trip. THANKS!!!!

I cannot begin to say enough about Kiawah. Only
last spring I visited the quaint Island with a close friend over Spring
Break of 1997. It's natural beauty and charm left quite an impression
on me; And I am happy to report that I shall be spending my next Spring
Break there also! Elizabeth Davis, London, KY

Owner of villa in FairWay Oaks (1350); why can't
we eliminate some of this material? 1997??? way outdated. I've tried to
enter information on the island before, don't know where it went? It
was about how we came to buy on Kiawah and how our two "Goldens" love
to go each night up to the Straw Market and get their Yogart. 04/03/98

We also visited Kiawah 4 years ago with the
intent of buying a Villa, which we did Why, we have a Golden Retreiver
that loves the beach. Now we have two but it bothers me when I see
people not pick up after their dogs. That is why dogs are not allowed,
except for property owners. Rosebank Farms, Shem Creek, The Inn at
Kiawah and of course Charleston has too many to mention. We will be on
the Island late April and for about three weeks this Oct. 98 You will
see the dogs most night getting their Yogart at the Straw Market

We are looking to rent a house for a week. We
have vacationed at Kiawah before with local accomodations, but we would
love to rent a romantic getaway for two - something much more private.
We absolutely prefer a house on the beach, if at all possible. We are
very responsible adults, ages 40 and 36, and very clean and respectful
of other people's homes. Price is a consideration - but not the only
consideration. Thank you for any reply. God bless. Best regards,

We also fell in love with Kiawah & Charleston 5
years ago. When we stood on the beach in October, no one in sight, 80
F. Jan said,"wouldn't Katie love to run this beach". Katie is our
"Golden", Charlie now runs with her when the turtles aren"t nesting.
You will normally see them setting on our deck when you head for the
property owners pool. We have a beautiful 3bed/3bath unit at 1350
Fairway Oaks,100 yds to the pool. We rent only locally in the Toledo
area and will more then likely remove from market completely for 99 .
Retirement is soon and Kiawah is ever closer, Jan will end up with
classes at Wharton.Maybe I'll cut grass , I,m easy.

Our family has returned to Kiawah for the past
seven Easter vacations. My three teenagers have fallen in love with
Kiawah. We usually stay at Night Heron, but this year we will be
enjoying our newly purchased cottage at Inlet Cove. The best secret of
Kiawah. Enjoy the dolphins, swimmingpool, dock onthe river. Try walking
the river bed to the ocean at low tide. Make sure to take your
binoculars with you. Drop me a line to here more about Inlet Cove.

My husband and I visit Kiawah quite often. In
fact we were just there in November of 1997 for my birthday, and we are
planning another trip there in June of this year. It is the most
wonderful place. The Island is so private and beautiful. Everything
about Kiawah is great. I have never had a bad experience there. The
shopping in Charleston is a lot of fun, just be sure and wear your
walking shoes when you go to Charleston, because there is a lot to see.
If you don't want to leave the Island, you don't have to because the
restaurants on the Island are great. I know this is a long E-Mail, but
I can't say enough about Kiawah, and I can't wait until June comes so I
can be on my way. Have a blessed day. Thank you
