Looking for a newer, nonsmoking vacation rental property on Kiawah
Island for the week of March 21-28. 204 adults, 2 children ages 11 & 13
and one small non-shedding dog that would be crated when not
supervised. We are responsible tenants. Any help would be appreciated.

We stayed at Kiawah for Easter week, 1997 and our family loved it.
Rented thru Charleston Resort Properties a 3 Bedroom unit in Oceanwoods.
Liked the property and location very much. Would like to return in
1998-any owners of 3 bedroom properties who rent privately out there??

We just love Kiawah Island and after our first visit three years
ago, we decided to relocate here in 1998. We make many trips down there
during the year and enjoy staying at the Kiawah Island Resort (Inn) and
always have a great time. The staff is very friendly and the
accomodations are lovely and relaxing. We are looking foward to our

Everything about Kiawah sounds wonderful. We own a b&B in
wilmington,NC and need to get away for a short trip. Can anyone
recommend a place on the beach for us. We may have 2 couples, but, we
like it quiet and natural. We plan to go in November.

Although my fondest memory of Kiawah is probably a little deviant
from the norm, it's fun and interesting none the less. Anyway, I'm an
avid bicyclist and a night owl and every night around eleven or so, I
would attach my head and tail lights and go for a long night ride. It's
a great change of pace from the regular daylight hours, theirs not
another soul to be found, and it's great for observing the regularly
more skittish wildlife, relaxing or just getting some exercise into an
otherwise tranquil day. I really recomend it to anyone. Nate Holobinko

My boyfriend's birthday is comming up and I thought it might be fun
to take him for a weekend in early October to Kiawah. His family
traveled their many times when he was a child so I thought it would be
a relaxing place full of childhood memories for us to explore. The
problem is that I have never been their and have no idea how to go
about planning the trip...I need hotel information as well as restraunt

We are looking forward to a *relaxing* vacation and anniversary on
Kiawah during the week of September 20 - 27, 1997. We would love to
rent an oceanfront cottage for two that's clean and with all the basics
(kitchen, bath, AC, phone, TV cable, etc and *clean*). Also, we always
wanted to take our well mannered and senior dog with us - any
suggestions for the above whose owners understand responsible

Myself, my wife, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law are planning a
trip to the Carolina's for the week of August 25th through 29th and are
looking for inexpensive suggestions. We are in the ministry full time
and looking for a vacation spot. We love the golf and the beach...We
need to relax. We are looking for a two bedroom place near or on the

We just returned from our second trip to Kiawah, July 5th to 12th,
last year we visited during the last week of July. We rent a vacation
villa from Pam Harrington Exclusives (they have their own website at
www. kiawah exclusives.com). They are wondeful to rent from and the
places are always spotless with beautiful views. July is hot in Kiawah,
make no mistake, but staying on the beach where there is usually a
breeze helps. We enjoy Charleston but in the South Carolina heat of
July its hard to spend an entire day touring. You can usually get a
morning or afternoon's sightseeing in before melting. The beaches are
never crowded, and if you enjoy walking on the beach early in the
morning or the evening after dinner you will have it all to yourself.
It is a very family oriented place - the perfect place to bring the
kids - our 7 year old can't get enough of it! We certainly plan to
return, we usually begin making plans right after Xmas for the
following summer and find ourselves looking forward to it for months! I
would highly recommend Kiawah and Pam Harrington Exclusives!

Kiawah Island is fabulous for vacationing for a short weekend get
away or a nice long leisurely week at the beach. We've been to Kiawah
Island four times and each time is a new adventure for us. We are
planning another family vacation and we are looking for a 2-bedroom
cottage, home, villa, etc. starting 7/29thru 8/3. If possible we would
like to bring our small four legged companion (welsh corgi) with us so
he won't be left out yet again. If anyone knows of a place we would
sure appreciate a message or call. Also, we are tennis players and
would like to know of others that might be interested during that time
period. Are there any great tennis packages available and if so, what
kind? Thanks.

We recently spent a wonderful 4 days at Kiawah, but I have a favor
to ask. We found hats at the Ocean Course Pro Shop made by a company
called East Course Headwear. They are like baseball hats, but have an
extra long (not wide) brim. Can anybody tell us how to contact the
manufacturer or retail outlet to purchase more. I've been looking for
hats like these for years. Thanks in advance for your help. See you

We're a family of 6 renting a house in the Vanderhorst Plantation
for the week of August 16-23, 1997. This is our first trip to Kiawah,
and we'd like information about the area, activities, eateries, etc. We

My family used to go to Kiawah every summer when I was little and we
wanted to go there for one last time in July or August. Unfortunately
it is very difficult to find a 2-bedroom home to rent for a week now
that Kiawah has become so popular. If anyone knows of a 2-bedroom home

I've not fished before in South Carolina. Is a license needed to
fish with a line in the ocean from the beach for recreation? Where do

I have vacationed on Kiawah many times before and am planning a trip
to the Island in late July with my four children-ages 11, 9, 3 and 16
months. DO YOU THINK IT WILL BE TOO HOT FOR THE TWO YOUNGER ONES? Any
advice would be appreciated-it won't be much fun if my wife and I have
to tag-team stays in the condo all afternoon with the two younger ones
to prevent them from roasting. Any suggestions, alternative things to

We are very interested in finding out about any resorts on the
island. Also, I have a daughter who is quite allergic to mosquitos,how
bad are they? This sounds like a heavenly place, how can I get info on

We will be arriving for our first-ever visit to the Ocean and to
Kiawah on Monday, 6-9-97. Would appreciate some "must see" and "must
do" ideas. Would like recommendations for excellent seafood restaurant,
reasonably priced, possibly non-touristy. Our trip includes a
Charleston harbor cruise and carriage ride. Anything special we should
know? We're a family of 4 including a 16 and 14 year old boy. Planning

Kiawah is in deed a wonderful place to escape to and to relax.No
matter what the age is anyone can find enjoyment. My wife and I have
been going there for over 7 years and have enjoyed it so much we
purcased a condo last spring. We do rent but his site is not for

We highly recomend Kiawah the year around. In fact there is less people
and far more wildlife in the off season. Go to Kiawah and we know you
will return year after after year.

I really enjoyed reading all the visitor comments on the web. I plan
on going to Kiawah Island in early May and was wondering if you had a
concise listing of the restaurants/bars/nightlife on the island. Also,
I am really interested in visiting Charleston but I may not have an
automobile. Is there some type of tour package/bus, etc. that I can

My wife and two sons (ages 7 and 5) and I have gone to Kiawah three
of the last four years and we love everything about Kiawah and the Low
Country. Unlike the congested tourist traps of other locations, you can
really get-a-way to paradise at Kiawah. It is my idea of what the
Garden of Eden must have been like! So powerful is its pull that I find
myself thinking of my next vacation there as soon as it's over.
Throughout the year when the little hassles of life get me down all I
have to do to get over it is to say over and over -- "Kiawah...Kiawah"!

worst in terms of winter weather. Fell in love with the place and, even
though retirement is many years away, bought some property so we can

My brother is getting married on the island on May 22nd 1997. He and
his fiancee have invited approximately 50 people and are planning a
small ceremony and party. They are interested in booking caterers and a

We deliberately visited Kiawah in mid-winter to see it at its worst

March 3rd 1997 My husband and I were married on Hilton Head Island
13 years ago this May 26. We honeymooned on Kiawah for two weeks it was
pure heaven. We rented a small condo with deer living under us. This
May we want to return for our anniversity with our three girls 12, 9
and 3 years of age. We love to golf with our two older girls but would
need day care for our little one. Please send any information on hotel

Each February when my husband and I plan for our spring vacation, we
discuss going to the Outer Banks, Hilton Head, Amelia Island,all those
places we have heard about in travel brochures. Yet for 12 years our
destination come March has always been Kiawah. It's not that we are
creatures of habit, it's just that one cannot but be drawn back to
perfection. It's as close to heaven as I can be on this earth. I would
like to find an owner, rather than an agency, who would be interested
in renting to us.

I'll be travelling to Kiawah March 18-22 with my family. We have two
girls ages 4 and 6. What is the temperature likely to be? Can anyone

I finally had the chance to play the Kiawah Island Ocean Course over
Christmas and I highly recommend it if you havn't played it. It is by
far the most beautiful course that I have ever played. My favorite
stretch was the last 3 holes along the Ocean. My wife and I are hooked
on this course and we are now adding this to the Charleston courses
that we play when we are in town. (Our favorite Charleston courses in
order are now: Kiawah Island Ocean Course, Dunes West, and Coosaw
Creek) We also played Wild Dunes Links but I didn't think it lived up
to its billing. I prefer the Wild Dunes Harbour course of the two Wild
Dunes courses. Hopefully we will get a few additional Kiawah Island
courses in next time we are in town. There is nothing like Kiawah
during the holidays. Anyone else have any recommendations of other
Kiawah courses we should play next?

Kiawah 1992-1996. This is the length of time we have had a house at
Kiawah. Traveled to many beaches and resorts. None can compare with the
beautiful beach and the beautiufl wild life of Kiawah. Poets, artist,

OCTOBER 18th 1996 My wife and I went to Kiawah Island for our
honeymoon last October. We suggest not missing the sunset on the deck
of the privateer restaurant and by all means go on the dolphin cruise
with captain jack at Bohickett Village (the highlight of our trip.)

I'm headed to Kiawah in two days (Oct 13-21)with husband and 2 kids,
ages 3 and 6 months. Everyone I've spoken with (and read) says I'll
love it. I'm concerned that the kids activities are closed for the
season...don't want to spend my vacation with the kids in front of a
VCR! Walks and nature hikes are great for about a half hour with them.
Any babysitting referrals are appreciated as well. THanks!

After vacationing on the Outer Banks of N.C. for the past several
years, we were ready for a change. We were delighted with our selection
of Kiawah Island for our summer '96 vacation (week of 09/01). It's
truly a haven. One can easily forget the "real world" in this lush,
subtropical paradise. It's the perfect place to reconnect with your
family. My family and I particularly enjoyed the safe and convenient
biking trails, bike rides on the beach, and witnessing the beauty of
nature firsthand--alligators sunbathing freely on the banks of
beautiful lagoons, baby loggerhead turtles just hatching and walking
out to sea, playful porpoises feeding at sunset (and literally jumping
onto the shore in a feeding frenzy), and graceful herons dotting the
landscape. All this in just four days! Unfortunately, our trip was cut
short by Hurricane Fran. But, unlike many other oceanside vacation
communities, we were refunded the balance of our rent at Parkside
Villas. Kiawah will definitely become a tradition.

We've been searching for a place to celebrate as a family my parents
50th wedding anniversary on July 4th 1997. We had some books which
talked about Kiawah Island and after a little investigation have almost
decided that this is the place for us. It will be three families, with
a 19 year old and two small children (almost three and under 1 yr old)
and it sounds as if there will be something for everyone. Any
suggestions will be gladly accepted.

Editor's Note: Especially during the summer season, you'll find much
to do on Kiawah Island. I would like to recommend that for at least one
of the days you're on vacation that you visit Charleston. It's about 20
miles from Kiawah and if you've never been there, you'll find it's a
charming city with much to see and do. Also, you might want to take an
eco-tour. Bohicket Yacht Rentals just off the island offers several
different types of tours. The waters off Kiawah are quite warm and are
inhabited by some interesting creatures.
We've just returned home from Kiawah Island and were sad to leave.
The good news is we will be returning in October for a couple of days.
We purchased a home on the island and will visiting every now and then
to see how things are going. CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN...

My best friend and I went to Kiawah for the first time the first
week of July 96. We stayed with some of my friend's relatives who were
staying at a house there in Kiawah. Let me tell you, I loved
everything!! The beaches were wonderful!

We just returned from a vacation to Kiawah approximately 1 week ago.
Fortunately, Kiawah and Charleston escaped the wrath of Bertha and we
had wonderful weather. We enjoyed the beach every day, as well as bike
riding and the summertime activities. For those interested the
Vanderhorst house is now a private home. There is a wonderful article
in the Legends magazine published and distributed on the island. We are
now planning our next trip. Hopefully, after Christmas (8-10-96)

After discovering Charleston and the surrounding areas last year, we
came across Kiawah Island with the realtor we were working with and we
have decided to relocate to Kiawah Island in two years. I find it
difficult to be up north after being on the island, and Kiawah Island
is always on my mind. I can't wait to move in two years!

Editor's Note: November is a nice time of year to be in the area.
The days are around 70 and the nights 50ish (degrees farenheit that
is). I am not sure about shops on the island itself, but being so close
to Charleston, you'll find that everything is open. Certainly most of
the planned activities are for the summer months, but you should be
able to find plenty to do. Anyone else - thoughts, experiences for that
time of year?
Hey! I recently (summer of '96) went to Kiawah with my friend and
her family. It was a very relaxing vacation, but we had plenty to do.
The island was beautiful with the well kept up grounds and golfcourses.
We often went on bike rides or walks. We often went off the island to
eat and discovered some really nice restaurants including "Gilligan's
(my favorite)," "Cappy's," and "California Dreaming." We rented
jet-skis for an hour and occupied ourselves doing 360's. Kiawah is a
great island for anyone whether you want to relax or have fun. I hope
to return soon.

We visited Kiawah last year in late August. We absolutely loved it.
We enjoyed the bike riding, the beach, and the alligators! We are
coming back July 20. We rode the Shuttle Bus every day to the Straw
Market, to get ice cream & candy. We rode the 20 mile bike course down
Govenors Dr, to the end of the island and back on the beach. Kiawah is
lots of fun!

I'm so happy to learn that there is a Kiawah Island page I can read
and keep updated as to all that is going on there. We visited the
island for the first time last year (summer 95) and fell in love with
the place. We are planning to buy and relocate to Kiawah within two
years. We are waiting to become semi-retired. We are looking foward to
our visit in July. We are hoping to find a property or home to

I have been going to Kiawah since 1982. I fell in love the beautiful
beaches and the nature trails. In 1985 when I got married, I couldn't
think of a place where I would rather spend my honeymoon than Kiawah.
My husband now loves it as much as I do. We now take our three children
to Kiawah as often as we can - it has become our haven. The children
love the water, the activities at Night Heron Park, the nature talks,
bike riding, bird watching and fishing. I cannot think of a better
place to spend relaxing time with my family and the friends we have met
there. I count the days until I can return.

My wife Bonnie and son Jeffrey just returned from our fourth trip to
Kiawah.(5/25-6/1/96) As usual it is more beautiful each time we visit.
We enjoy riding our bikes and this year 9 year old Jeffrey joined us on
two bike rides from Turtle Cove out to the Ocean Course. We hope to
someday buy a place here and share this wonderful experience with
family and friends. For anyone who is wondering about planning a trip
to this area please give Kiawah a try, you'll be glad you did!

We visited the island in 1991 and I remember walking through a
housing addition and through a woods to the private grounds of the
Vanderhorst mansion. We were told it was to be made into a restaurant.
I have wondered ever since the hurricane whether or not the mansion
survived and did it ever become a restaurant? I would appreciate a
reply. Thank you!

I have been coming to Kiawah for 13 years and it is my heaven. Long
walks on the beach, bike rides, golf...a place to escape reality.
Everytime I leave this place, I can only think of coming back...playing
on the beach, getting tan, spending time with my family. I thank my
parents everyday for finding Kiawah. Everyone should have one, a
Kiawah.

two kids we decided to go back in 1994. Wow!, We had forgotten how much
we loved this place! We went back in '95 and are going back July '96.
The kids love it! and so do we....
Wish we could just live at Inlet Cove, maybe some day.

We've visited Kiawah since 1986 years with our family, and we've
loved it every time. But this year neither of us could go this year
because we're in college. We listen to our parents talk about it on the
phone every night, and we silently cry every night because we aren't
there with them. This is the first time we have we have not been with
our family for a vacation, especially at a place like Kiawah. Kiawah is
a rejuvenating place because we can ride bikes and play on the beach
all day, with no worries. The scent of the ocean breezes as they blow
in your window early in the morning entice to rise and start your day.
The general store has delicious icees, which our family gets every day.
The straw market is a great place to go to cool off after a long bike
ride. We wish we were there with our family right now, but we know that
someday we'll come back with our own families and be able to relive the
joy of Kiawah. We strongly recommend this glorious island to anyone
with young families or old.

On a recent vacation to Kiawah Island in the spring of '96, my
family and some guests had a delightful experience renting bicycles.
AArdvark Bicycle Company promptly delivered, for free,some very nice
bicycles accomadating us adults and our small children. After calling
around to some other bicycle renters, we found Aardvark's rates were
considerably less, and we spoke directly to the owner who was curtious
and profesional unlike our past experiences renting bicycles.

I have been going to Kiawah for 7 or so years now (I'm 17), but our
trip in the summer of 1995 was the best ever. We took a
dolphin-watching cruise on the river and then returned to our villa to
watch a magnificent storm move across the ocean. The moon was full and
beautiful all week (and even rose red), and I was lucky enough to see
dolphins swimming in the moonlight. On top of that, I wished on several
shooting stars! I have always said to my parents that I will buy them a
place on Kiawah so that they can retire there, but I think they'll have
to share a house with me! I look forward to returning this summer with
a group of friends so that I can show them the beauty of this
incredible island.
P.S. Cappy's is a great restaurant; the crab dip is delicious!

We've experienced Kiawah on our honeymoon and later as a family.
Beautiful place. Love the pools, bike trails, nature preserves, parks,
etc. - all within short bike rides. It is a little expensive but I hope

My Uncle and Aunt own a cottage in Kiawah, I was invited to go to
Kiawah by them, as long as I got good grades. I made the grades and got
to go, it was the best summer of my life! I loved the beach, and the
girls on it! I thought I was in HEAVEN!!! My cousins and I traveled
everywhere on bikes, we stayed out till like three o'clock in the
morning for about a week, then I went home. It very close to Chaleston.
I would recommend it to anyone. It's the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Kiawah Lovers! My name is Hope Fato, my husband and I Married
on March 19th, 1994. We did not know where to honeymoon & I know god
was with us when we picked Kiawah. We had never heard of it before but
it was the best choice we ever made! We loved it. We are now saving so
we can bring our 3 month old son ther in March of 1997. We have also
decided that we want to start saving so maybe we can retire to Kiawah.
I have never seen such beauty, have never been so at peace, have never
been so relaxed as when I was at Kiawah Island. I miss it dearly.

I visited Kiawah last summer (August, 1995). This is a message to
anyone who may be doubting a Kiawah vacation--don't. This is not a
vacation that you're just going to hang around with your parents on!
The island night life on Kiawah is incredible. The boardwalk is a
magnet for people,and everyone there is extremely friendly. Night Heron
park is to the day what the boardwalk is to the night life. There are
always people there to hang out with. Kiawah is a great place- and I
intend to go back there with a group of friends someday. I advise
anyone to do the same.

I recently was introduced to the NET and wanted to look up my
favorite place in the world. KIAWAH has become this place since my
first trip there when I was about 12 years old. I am now 25 and nothing
has come close to giving me the enjoyment I feel while on the island!
I have not been to KIAWAH in 2 years now. My parents had a place on
the island at 1221 Greenslake and I went when ever I could. I didn't go
during the biggest peak months because of the money. My parents loved
KIAWAH so much they streched themselves a little thin to own a place on
KIAWAH ISLAND!
My parents loved that place so much and wanted to have the chance to
experience the "feeling" of KIAWAH when ever they wanted.
In April of 94 my father past away of cancer and my mother had to
sell 1221 Greenslake. I was so upset that I would not be able to return
for many years. I knew it would be way too hard for my mother to
return. KIAWAH was their place!
I wanted to write a letter so that everyone could understand that
KIAWAH is not just about all the wonderful activities and golf courses.
It's not just about the miles and miles of unspoiled beach. It goes
beyond the wildlife and friendly people to a feeling you get when you
find,"your place."
That place where you fall in love again every single morning at
sunrise over the lagoon and every single evening as the sun falls into
the ocean. I never thought I could feel this strongly about a single
place, but the way my parents looked at each other seemed to be
different when we were on vacation.
I will be married in June and cannot wait to return someday with my
wife and hopefully my mother and the rest of my family.

My family and I have been going to Kiawah for several years, usually
in the beginning of June. It is great! There is never a crowd and even
when it rains it is fun. My sons, Chris (5) and Ian (7), enjoy all of
the activities, the swimming and bicycling especially. It is easily a
very affordable family vacation spots. Kiawah always has some type of
family program, turtle walks, picnics, lectures, ... We highly
recommend it!

Kiawah is truly paradise found. Have been in May, September, and
October for the past 6 years, going in March next year. The weather is
always wonderful. Be sure to go to the Privateer Restaurant at
sundown and watch the sunset from the upper bar deck over looking the
marina. Have dinner at Magnolia's in
Charleston after dark (sit on
the patio with the old church in view). Check out the "Angel Oak" and
Kiawah Seafood Market off Bohicket Road. Enjoy!

I am Jim's eleven year old son. Kiawah is the only place I can call
home, the reasons for this, I think, is because there are millons of
things to do and I never get bored. Kiawah has pools, 5 golf courses,
tennis courts, bike trails, a soccer field, fishing and last, but not
least, ALLIGATORS!!At night, the moon is full and the stars are bright
and the beach is EMPTY! I love taking a walk and watching the crabs run
back into the ocean. Kiawah Island is AWESOME!!!!!

We first went to Kiawah in 1994.The whole family immediately fell in
love with the island, and bought a home near Osprey Point Golf Club.
The Osprey Golf is one of the nicest courses we have played on in
Europe and the US. We will return 3 times next year for holidays with
the children. The pace and climate of the Island is terrific. Don't
overcrowd it please!

Kiawah Island is a beautiful place, even in November ! Superb
vegetation, dark lagoons reflecting the sky, a superb stretch of beach,
deer running freely over the dunes, a dazzling abundance of birds, and
the ALLIGATORS, oh all those Alligators !!! The houses are magnificent,
Turtle Point must be one of the prettiest golf courses anywhere, but
the Ocean Course is really too humbling !!!

As a junior at Kansas State University, I'm not what one would call
a world traveler, but Kiawah is by far the best place on earth! I love
watching the alligators, shrimp boats and dolphins. Don't forget to
take a mental note of what sidewalk you took to the oceanfront because
in the dark and without a map you could get lost :) P.S. If you like
the military go to a Citadel dress parade.

for the night. There is something for everyone at Kiawah from kids to
adults. I lived there all summer and worked at the Kiawah Island Club,

My favorite part of our Charleston vacation was walking the
extravagant beaches of glorious Kiawah Island. Also great fun was
seeing the marvelous historic architechture and sampling the excellent
seafood. We can't wait to go back!

Kiawah has become my heaven on earth. Never before have I seen such
a resort created while maintaining the natural setting. Wildlife
abounds all around you! Deer, squirrel, Dolphins and yes, alligators
too! Best places to eat? The crab house and cappy's. Over
the past year the island is offering more places on the island to dine,
which is great. There's even a small food court now! When we go we rent
a Villa in Inlet Cove. If you can, get one with a river view. Then you
can sit on your back porch and watch the Dolphins play! (Salt water
River).
Kiawah is, in a word (2 words?) Beautiful and breathtaking.

For great seafood, visit the "One-Eyed Parrot" on the Isle of
Palms. The screened in porch is the best place to take in the sunset
and enjoy the breeze. In downtown Charleston, the Public Market
is fun. Look for the authentic sweetgrass baskets made by hand, only in
this area. Also in downtown, take a walking tour or carriage ride,
there are many historic homes and other rich history. Kiawah Island
is a beautiful place for riding bikes, canoeing, swimming and simply
relaxing. Enjoy!

Our vacation on Kiawah Island was a delightful break. We so
loved flying kites on the beach and the fact that we could ride
bicycles all around the island. It is a great place to bring kids, and
we are planning to return with our parents and other relatives for a
combination vaction and family reunion.

The Straw Market is a wonderful place to browse boutiques
offering everything from fine art to gourmet food. While there we had
lunch at Sweetgrass on their outside patio and enjoyed a scrumptious
meal (Jumbo Shrimp Ashley) at the market while the cool breezes and
overhead fans kept us cool.
