I am a student looking for a job and a place to stay this summer in
Hilton Head. I was wondering if you could suggest some accomodations
that would not be too terribly expensive. Thanks so much! Melia

My family has traveled to Hilton Head each summer for the past six
years. We stay on South Beach, and regularly visit the Salty Dog for a
fun, casual evening. My son, who is 25 months, and my nephew, 15
months, loved meeting Jake the Salty Dog. Our favorite place to eat is
Just Pasta in the Coligny Plaza. They have a great menu and atmosphere,
and the staff is great! We never miss our annual meal at this great
restaurant.

island, etc. Any information you can give us would be VERY MUCH
appreciated. Thanks.

Having just returned from a week at Hilton Head, I thought I would pass
on some of my observations - both positive and negative. First, they
are to be complemented on their signage restrictions and how the
commercial buildings are shielded from the main highway. On the other
hand, it's difficult to find the stores that you know you have seen.
Second, I found it offensive to charge cars $5.00 to visit Horbortown
and Sea Pines to spend money at their shops. This makes no sense at
all! Restaurants: Old Fort Pub and Crazy Crab were excellent. I would
not return to the Kingfisher. Service and quality left much to be
desired.

My husband & myself are survivors of Traumatic Brain Injuries...we look
& act normal but move much slower then we did post accident BUT we
still enjoy being out & with people. We live in Mebane, NC in the
middle of Guilford College in Greensboro, NC & Duke Unniversity in
Durham, NC & also Chapel Hill, NC with NC State Unniversity. We would
love to find a quiet, comfortable place to come visit TWICE yearly for
4days-3 nights and also find an inexpensive restaurant along the way as
Social Security Disablity Insurance (SSDI) does not pay alot in monthly
payments and our SAVINGS walked away several years ago to other
NECESSARY MEDICAL EXPENSES with no insurance outlay involved but thank
heavens we had our RETIREMENT moneies to fall back on when this
accident happened to us. You know no one dreams of this case scenerio
happening to them but it does happen to persons all the time...we just
need to find or make places for them to travel too, nothing spectacular
just clean, comfortable & a place to go eat where others & their
children will not rudely stare while looking your way. Can & will you
please help? Looking forward to your response...thank you & God Bless.
Needless to say the romantic in me is still looking for a place for my
husband & myself to escape to--even though we are now in the disabled
persons way of life WE STILL NEED ALOT. Wouldn't you please help me to
help us...thank you, Mrs. Douglas W. (Paula Jo) Carr

Our first trip to Hilton Head Island was May of 1994. We will never
forget it! We stayed at HILTONHEAD BEACH & TENNIS Resort. Had a
wonderful time. Easy walk to the beach, beautiful huge pool and from
every balcony from every rental at buildings A B & C you had a view of
the ocean. We have been back several times (each year) to visit the
Island. As years go by and destinations change so have our wonderful
experiences. This past March, we took the ferry boat at Daufuskie
Island Embarcation(next to Hudson's) to Daufuskie Island. What a great
day trip this was. A short trip from HH to Sav. is very memorable.
Shuckers! River St. Great experience. We love the whole area.

Seven of us will be staying in the Shipyard Resort. (Southwinds
II)(feedback welcomed) This may not matter but we are African Americans
and would sometimes like to find an R&B lounge where everyone dances!
Our ages are 35 - 60 and looking to have a lot of fun, dance and laugh.
I'm sure the Island can accomodate all but these specifics would make
such a difference so that we not stay in our room the whole trip which
is what happens when not sure where to go. Thanks. Robi. (rrj1@bellsouth.net)

at Harbor Town and the Salty Dog Cafe and they have good food. If you
like to fish, I have went crabbing and shark fishing. I am 9 years old

As my birthday approaches, my friends and I are going back to HHI now
as a yearly trek. Last year, we spent a glorious Memorial Week at Sea
Pines. Having travelled a lot, I can tell you Sea Pines is definitely
one of the most serene vacation spots I've ever been to! We had a villa
across from Plantation Bay Center with an Ocean Course hole in our back
yard. Fantastic place. Here are some memorable bullets. Our first night
we toasted our first and last night's stay at The Salty Dog (good for
drinks) and were welcomed by two male streakers. During our stay, We
did Wild Wings (the best variety and quality in Wings anywhere, sit on
the patio!), and Crazy Crab at Harbourtown (We would have been better
off at a Red Lobster or ). The ladies of the crew recommend trying the
Monkey Nut cocktail at the outside bar at Harbour Town. We partied at
Club South Beach, across from Wild Wings. (Hip Hop, Rap, Club, Good
vids, and effective drinks, Recommended place to lose it at.) We played
Old South Golf Course, a challenging target golf type course with no
boring holes and water to keep you awake. I recommend it as I also
played Harbour Town. (I drank a 93 at OS and shot an 81 at HT) Great
clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant at HT(go early and have the
breakfast buffet, later do a Shrimp Po Boy!) Driving through last week,
I stopped at the Smokehouse Bar and House of BBQ. (It might win/place
at local cookoffs but I've had better) I will try Sticky Fingers this
year. Sea Pines Beach Club has a great bar and an Oceanview BBQ on
Friday night for a very casual, by the beach, fun dinner. I
rediscovered bike riding at HHI. BYOB or rent one there. Overall, HHI
is definitely a great vacation experience.

We just returned from HH and had a wonderful time. The first night we
arrived we had dinner at Marley's Island Grill. It was a pretty nice
place with casual atmosphere and pretty good food. I had 1.5 lbs. of
crab legs for 15.99. Then we decided to go dancing and right across the
parking lot was a place called Wingo's. It's a mix of 20' -50's patrons
and played a good mix of disco played between sets of a band. Real fun
place if you enjoy that sort of thing. While there we also ate at Sante
Fe an upscale Mexican establishment with great food but a little
overpriced. Kingfisher in Shelter Cove had the best steak as far as I
was concerned but stay away from their lobster tail is was pretty bad.
As far as bars, Hinchley's, British Open Pub, The Lodge all provided us
with a great deal of fun. The Lodge was the best with walk-in humidor,
pool tables, great martini's and a great atmosphere. As far as golf
Berkeley Hall was the only place we played and were able to get in 3
rounds while there. This is a very upscale private club in Bluffton and
I would highly recommend it if you have an in there. We could not have
received any better treatment there as they made us felt like VIP's.
The course was a very challenging Tom Fazio design with 76 bunkers
which I found myself in quite often. They provided us with a Fore Caddy
who was of great assistance helping us read the course. Hilton head was
a great time and plan on going back in the near future.
