Golf Hilton Head, SC
Island West Golf Club
Island West, designed by popular PGA Tour Professional Fuzzy
Zoeller and award-winning architect Clyde Johnston, opened in
1991 and is an enjoyable daily-fee course for the good player
and very accommodating for the mid to high handicapper. Nominated
for Golf Digest's 1992 Best New Course of the Year, Island
West plays from 4,938 to 6,803 yards. It is a scenic marshside course with
elevated tees and rolling fairways. Opportunities for
well-played gambles are present and appropriately
rewarded, but there are also safe routes for the
cautious. The back nine is particularly strong and the
more scenic of the two sides (noteworthy are the
signature holes 8 and 17, side-by-side par three's over water
to a 125-yard wide double green).
