Golf Hilton Head, SC
Callawassie Island Club
Located off Hwy. 170 between Hilton Head Island and Beaufort,
Callawassie is an outstanding Tom Fazio design that has consistently
been ranked among the state's best. The site's high elevation,
unusual for a Lowcountry barrier island, allows for some dramatic
undulations.
Fazio has added plenty of mounding, swales and dramatic bunkering,
including pot bunkers and "love grass" traps Ponds and
marshland come directly into play on l5 of the 27 holes. The newest
nine, Dogwood, is equally as scenic as the club's magnificent
originals, Palmetto and Magnolia. The final four holes of Dogwood
play alongside the marshes of Chechessee Creek. Many regard Callawassie
as one of the South's "hidden gems," and it's well worth
the 30-minute drive from Hilton Head Island.
