Golf Hilton Head, SC
Barony Course
Port Royal Plantation
George Cobb and Willard Byrd collaborated on the design of the
Barony Course, which plays to 6,530 yards and a par of 72 from
the championship tees. While the holes are relatively open off
the tee, Barony's greatest challenge is presented around its small
greens, which are heavily protected by deep bunkers, lagoons and
Bermuda rough. Playing to just 6,038 yards from the regular tees,
this is a course where accuracy, not length, is paramount, and
a deft touch is required with medium and short irons. The back
nine offers a fine mix of long holes (the 428-yard, par four 12th
plays directly into the ocean breeze) and short holes (the 480-yard,
par five 15th can be easily reached with two solid shots). All
in all, this is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels.
The Barony Course, along with Port Royal Resort, has been recognized
by GOLF Magazine as a "Silver Medal" Resort.
